Sunshines and Creeps

Creep to my spring break being almost over. Back to work Monday :-( I kind of liked this domestic housewife thing.

Sunshine to our engagement photos tomorrow. Yay!!!

Sunshine to going to yoga sculpt at 6am yesterday. I was so productive the rest of the day.

Sunshine to finding brown jasmine rice at the grocery store this week. I have been looking for it since we moved from Chicago. Who knew it's so rare and grocery stores don't carry it. Thank you Target!

Creep to hardly cooking this week.

Sunshine to seeing the Hunger Games on Wednesday night.

Creep to feeling unorganized. One would think with all my time off, I'd feel the opposite.

Sunshine to our tasting this week. Our wedding food is going to be delicious.

Sunshine to seeing my parents again this week.

Sunshine to the last two Thursday morning phone dates I've had with my GF Johanne on her way to work.

Creep to all my library books on hold coming in at the same time. I have 5 books I've been waiting for for months all come in within 2 days of each other :-(

Sunshine to the nice weather this weekend.

Sunshine to my future hubby and current fiance. I love you baby!

Wedding Wednesday - Tasting

Last night, my parents, Michael's parents, and Michael and I had our tasting with our caterer. Michael and I got food recommendations from our rental vendor and after meeting with all of them and getting quotes back, we were fairly certain that we had made our decision. But before we put down our deposit, we wanted to do a tasting.

The tasting was AMAZING!!! Hence, we've selected our caterer. They presented us with full-sized portions of all the dishes, and we had to make some selections so we ate a lot of food. In fact, after the second entree, my dad said "I think I need to stop eating everything on the plate." I was blown away by the presentation, quality, and taste of every dish except one, and I think our edits will make that one better.

I don't want to give away everything but I will say that there will be some apps during the cocktail hour, followed by a plated salad and entree. Guests will have their choice between three dishes - steak, chicken, and vegetarian entrees (I'm choosing the chicken - so good). There are a few other surprises in there too :-)

Overall, we all left there extremely full and pleased. Both sets of parents approved and we were so happy that they were all there. And of course, we took the group photo on my mom's camera, which means I'll never see it again...

I can't wait! 164 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weekend in North Dakota

Last weekend, we went to North Dakota for the weekend. Jami and her family recently moved to my hometown (actually, they are living in my great-grandmother's old house across the road from my grandma's and parents' houses - yes, we now have a compound) and Jessi was going home too. So I drove home on Thursday and my dad and Chris flew over and picked Michael up on Friday afternoon.

We spent the weekend doing what we always do: playing cards, cooking, eating, laughing, playing with toys, and watching endless amounts of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

I'm so excited that my sister and her family now live closer to home so that we can see each other more often. I love my family and can't wait to see them all again soon!

I didn't take as many pictures as I would have liked so here are two of my favorites.

Wedding Wednesday: Bridesmaid Dresses

Yes, I know it's Thursday but I needed to do a happy birthday message to my sisters the last two days (yes, their birthdays are consecutive days!).

Anyways, back to Wedding Wednesday...After I picked my dress, I started researching bridesmaid dresses. Michael and I decided on our color palette pretty early on, so I knew the color I wanted for bridesmaid dresses - gray. I just love the look of gray dresses and I think they look great on blondes and brunettes. I also knew I wanted to do a long dress for the ladies.

I did quite a bit of research and consulted my sisters to help make the decisions. I love the dress they chose and I can't wait to see the bridesmaids in it!

Insomnia

via Google Images
Do you ever get insomnia? I had it last night. I could not fall asleep. It’s probably my own fault, because I read 200+ pages of a book and finished it at 11:30, but I just could not get my mind to shut off after that. It was racing about lots of things, and started with mundane things like the next book in the series and what housework needs to be done in the next day or so. Then it shifted to those big picture items that I can’t stop thinking about: work and the wedding. That led to even more thinking about the biggest picture item -  the future. AGH! Too much! The last time I looked at the clock, it was 1:07. And then I woke up at 4:17 and my mind instantly starting racing again.

Tonight, I’m taking an Advil PM. I need some sleep.

Wedding Wednesday - Ring Bearer and Flower Girl

My ring bearer and flower girl are my nephew Kaden and niece Kynleigh. I know they are little (they'll be 2 and a half and 10 months at the wedding) but I really wanted them to be involved in the wedding.

I have no expectations of the kiddos on the wedding day. Kynleigh probably won't be able to walk at that point. And if Kaden can walk down the aisle, great. If not, no big deal.

I do hope that they are in good moods for pictures because I'd love some of them with Michael and I, their parents, and the rest of my family. And of course, a few candids would be fun too.

I think the thing I'm most excited about is to see them all dressed up. Kaden will be in a little tux like this:

And I really want Kynleigh to wear a cute little tutu like this (and I want a headband too - so cute!):

Can't wait to see the kiddos all dressed up!

Off to a good start

You know your day is off to a good start when you spill your entire cup of coffee all over your desk. Let's hope that's the worst thing that happens to me today...

Sunshines & Creeps

Sunshine to the weekend! I think I say this in every S&C post, but I always get excited for the weekend.

Sunshine to two long runs this week, one being outside and the other being REALLY long b/c it was on the treadmill during the NU basketball game, which went into OT.

Creep to Northwestern's unfortunate OT loss in the Big 10 men's basketball tournament last night. That game was painful, and now we have basically no chance of making the NCAA tournament (which we've never made). Arg!

Sunshine / Creep  to NU's loss, which lead me and Michael to eat Dairy Queen (dipped cone for him, blizzard for me) for dinner to cope with the loss. It was good, but probably not the best dinner choice...

Sunshine to getting some wedding stuff accomplished this week.

Creep to people stressing me out about the wedding.

Creep to our caterer for being unresponsive.

Sunshine to seeing Lara, Becky, and Allie briefly this week. I hadn't seen any of them since early January so it was good to catch up.

Creep to being unmotivated at work. I just need to make it through one more week, then I have a two week spring break. Woo!

Sunshine to an awesome ski trip with Jami and Chris last weekend, and seeing their kids.

Always. Sometimes. Never

My friend Kristen posted this fun idea on her blog the other day - Always. Sometimes. Never. I decided I want to play along.

I always...
...wash my face before I go to bed every night.
...call my Mom every day.
...sing louder than the radio in my car.
...wish my hair was longer.
...do the laundry at our house. I'm too picky to let Michael do it.
...kiss Michael goodnight and tell him how much I love him.

I sometimes...
....eat breakfast foods for dinner.
...watch viral videos I see posted on FB.
...leave my clothes in my suitcase for days after a trip.
...post pictures on FB. Usually, they just go up on my blog.
...bake Christmas cookies in July.
...miss riding the El to work.

I never...
...regret a workout.
...check my work email in the evenings or on the weekends. I like to keep my personal and professional lives separate.
...eat mayo. Yuck!
...will understand how no one in MN knows how to merge on the highways.

Wedding Wednesday - Wedding Dress Shopping Part 2

As I said before, I was feeling pressure to make a decision about my dress. Most places say to order it a minimum of 8 months in advance and since I was approaching 6, I needed to decide asap to make sure it comes in on time.

I went back to store number 2 a few days after my parents left. I tried on the one-shouldered gown again and despite all the things I loved about it, I was still hesitant. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I just wasn't ready to pull the trigger. It didn't help that they were offering a free veil if I made my purchase by the end of the month, which was the next day. I left there feeling completely unsure and confused.

The next day, I had a total breakdown. My first wedding breakdown. Dress stress, combined with a bad dentist appointment and the post office not having the stamps I wanted, all before 9am, led to full-on sobbing in my car. Luckily, my mom is awesome and she helped bring me back to my senses. I took a few days off the wedding dress search to figure out what I wanted to do.

Michael had told me that a store near his office was doing a bridal expo so I decided to check that place out by myself that Friday night. The consultants there were great and I found three dresses that I really liked there. Going there alone was tough, and it confirmed to me that I couldn't buy a dress that my mom had never seen (no pictures allowed here) or alone. I was back at square one - dressless.

I asked my mom if she could come down again. I knew it was a lot to ask but I just needed her there with me. She and my dad worked it out to come the next weekend and I was really happy. I made appointments at store number 5 (near Michael's office) and store number 3 again so I could try on my favorites from there.

At store number 5, my mom and I agreed on the dress we liked the most. However, there was something about the cut near the arm pit of the dress that was driving me bonkers. My mom kept telling me "If it bugs you now, it will be bug you forever." She was right, but this dress was so close for me that I thought I might be able to get over it. We left there with an appointment to come back the next day, as we were fairly certain that could have been the one. Just as we were leaving, I asked about adding extra length to the gown, as it was too short for me in bare feet. The charge was unbelievable. My mom and I looked at each other and said "Nope, not the one."

On Saturday, we went back to store number 3 and met up with Megan again. She is so great! Seriously, if you're going shopping in the Cities and need a rec, I would recommend her in a heartbeat. She pulled my favorites from before and when I put the second one on, I felt good. Really good. And I could tell my mom was thinking the same thing - this dress was the one. Funny enough, I ended up getting a free veil from them so the whole stress of the free veil from store number 2 seemed comical.

I now totally understand why one of my girlfriends went shopping a ton of times and tried on the same few dresses every time. I understand why another friend told me she stood in her dress for about 45 minutes when she picked it up. You want to be sure. And once you are sure, you don't want to take it off.

I'm not going to post any pics of the dresses I tried on - if you google one-shouldered wedding dresses or look at my Pinterest page, you'll see many of them. But the dress I brought is not on my Pinterest page so don't think you've found it :-) The only thing I'll say is that it is - SURPRISE - one-shouldered.

I can't wait until it comes in! 185 days!

Traveling Tuesday - Ski Trip 2012

Last Wednesday, Michael and I flew out to CO for our annual ski trip with my sister Jami and brother in law Chris.

This year, we went to Vail. One of Michael's family friends had a timeshare that she was only using half of the week so she let us use it the other half - thanks Terri! We stayed at the Marriott Streamside, and it was a great resort. There was plenty of room for all of us and our stuff. Also, having a kitchen was really helpful, as we didn't eat out at all on the trip but instead cooked all of our meals.

We skiied on Thursday and Friday. I had forgotten how exhausting skiing could be (and realized how out of shape I am) but we had a great time skiing both days. In the evenings, we cooked, drank wine, and played cards. It was so much fun!

Posing for a quick picture before we got started on Day 1

Lunch break on Day 2

Me and the love of my life on the hill.

I don't think I have one inch of skin exposed in this picture. It was cold!

On Saturday, we headed back to the Springs and we flew out on Sunday evening. It was great to see my niece and nephew, who are as adorable as ever. Kaden and I had a lot of fun playing together and he even sort of said my name. I asked him to say Auntie and he said Ahhhh and then I asked him to say Jenni and he said "Je, Je, Je." Unfortunately, I forgot to take any photos of the kiddos. Bad Je!

We can't wait for Ski Trip 2013. Who knows where we'll go next year?!
