Wedding Wednesday - Details

Today I'm going to share some of our wedding details with you. Specifically, the ones that tie into our theme.

If you didn't already know, we sort of had a wine theme with our wedding. A lot of our decorations, ideas, etc. were wine-related in some way.

For example, you already knew that burgundy was one of our colors. Our stationery, flowers, and linens captured that.

Our favors were homemade wine charms. They were actually really easy to make and we made everyone a set of four (in our wedding colors) and then packaged them in little tins with a personalized label.

We also used a lot of corks. I think we had about 700 or so and they were all used. That is A LOT of corks! We used them for our escort cards, to hold up our stationery, as our guestbook, and in the centerpieces.

Our centerpieces were made up of vases of corks and grapes, wine bottles showing the table numbers (that was the DIY project from hell but they looked great), and some fresh hydrangea. I loved how they the whole thing looked - exactly what we wanted: clean, low, and colorful.

Our photographer took some cool pictures of our rings using grapes and a cork from our favorite bottle of wine.

And then we bought six wine barrels and used them for various things, including flanking the back of the aisle with vases of flowers, the cigar bar, the sparklers for the grand exit, the cake stand, and for our wine ceremony. My favorite thing was probably the cake - I am so in love with how awesome it looked (and tasted).

We plan to use one of the barrels and turn it into a table for our screened-in porch someday. We are giving one to each set of our parents and we'll sell the other three. If you're interested, let me know :-)

Instead of doing a unity candle, we did a wine ceremony. It was our first tradition as husband and wife. We sealed a bottle of our favorite wine and love letters in a box. On our first anniversary, we will open the box, read the letters, and share the wine. Each year we will replace the wine and love letters, to be opened on our next anniversary. Though the type of wine and content of the letters will change from year to year, the significance and meaning of our ritual will last a lifetime.

And then we had a lot of wine to drink!

More non-wine details next week. And lots of other pictures to come!
